In a recent e-mail to Secretary Salazar, I wrote the following.
" Dear Secretary Salazar,
Thank you for coming to Monterey and seeing first hand what a local treasure we have in the BLM lands on the former Fort Ord. You heard from people in the recreation community as well as some business owners and university personnel who are united in support of making the BML lands a national monuement. I did not speak at that session, which you so masterfully directed, so that ypu could get the most information and support in a limited time period. My support is unqualified as is that of the organization I represent, the Monterey Bay Youth Camp. The camp will occupy approximately sixty nine acres adjacent to the BLM lands and will emphasize environmental education and activities related to the continunity of the environment for future generations. Our mission parallels that of so many of the people that spoke at Monterey. And we strongly feel that protecting the BLM lands as a wilderness for all to enjoy is a natural extension of our purpose in involving our youth in activities that sustain the environment in a state as natural as we can maintain.
Thank you again for your interest and support as we bring this issue to the White House for action.
